Changhsu,

If I understand your questions correctly, this advice might surprise you. Both win98 and win2k, were
itegrated with some winNT features, but if you really need "more isolated system resources that one
won't affect the other", then you can't beat WinNT. I would recommend looking into NT 4 or NT 5 as
your only OS. These are, of course, opinions, but the more I've learned about NT, the more I like
it.

Subject: [PCSOFT] Multiple user system

I'm trying to find a best solution to multi-user system at home. Basically,
I have some education programs for my son but I don't want all the program
groups, system files to affect my system.

Currently, I have multiple-boot system so one system has all the edu-games
while I use my a different system. I use System Commander to do the system
switching.

There are a few drawbacks.
1) it's a lot to maintain 2 systems. Everytime I rebuild my system, I have
to set up another system.
2) I cannot have 2 identical system switchable with System Commander, e.g.,
2 Windows SE running. I have to have 1 Win98SE and another Win98 Chinese.
It appears to me if I install Win98SE on C:\ and then install Win98SE on
D:\ then, it's still one Win98SE since it just switchs the system from C:
to D:. If you have 2 different versions, then, they would be recognized as
individual systems.

I know you can login to Win98SE, Win2000, etc... as different users. From
what I see, you get different desktop, favorites, start menu. You still
share the same system folder so whatever system junks installed from
edu-games, it gonna affect my own login. On Win2000, there is settings
folder "All Users" that many programs you install would still show up no
matter which username you chooe to logon. Is there a way that each
individual user would have . I hate these games that keep installing QuickTime 2.1,
3.0 when my system already got QuickTime 4, or installing something unknow
to my working machine.

Thanks for any suggestions,

Changhsu Liu
