You may not want to hear this, but the hard drive is more
than likely on the way out... (Keep a close eye on it and
start getting real important stuff backed up.)
The only drive I had fail was just a little older than that.
If you get a new one, you will have several new problems.
The BIOS will not support it directly, (this is just a guess),
so you might have to use a Disk Overlay program to
control the drive. Not too bad, but from a service and repair
standpoint a real problem if there IS a problem...
If you only have Win95 original or "A" (build 950)
you will wind up with a partition limit of 2G. this means lots
of drive letters, and the CD-ROM and all your installed programs
that need the CD to run (or repair) will be "trashed" or hard to fix.
Try to find out if you have a Dallas Realtime clock chip/battery.
I think they are around $100(US) and may not be available.
You have come to a turning point, and have some hard decisions.
