The .bmp, .jpg, and .gif files merely represent the
different graphics formats and have nothing to do per se
with the resolution of the pictures. The resolution depends
upon the resolution of the camera with which the picture was
taken. I have a digital camera with a resolution of 680 X
480 dpi, and the editing program allows me to save the files
in .jpg or .bmp formats.
The .jpg format, which is used by the camera is a
compressed format, which produces a file that is much
smaller in size than the .bmp format, which is an
uncompressed Windows format that is required by such
programs as WordPerfect 6.1 when you want to include a
picture in your document.
