It looks like the Google toolbar is causing some problems. Strange advice
for the problem you were originally experiencing.
Go to Control Panel, Add/Remove programs, and uninstall Google Toolbar and
any other IE add-ons you may have installed at the same time. Reboot and
you should be fine.
Otherwise, as others have advised, try System Restore.

Consider yourself lucky. Once installed, it's very difficult to fully
remove from your system. Again, very odd advice if you already have McAfee.
