Condensing the data is an option I will only "mention" briefly.
In your version, it may not be a good choice for lots of reasons.
(It would still expose all your "totals", and the feature "unconditional
condenses" were added later, I think.)

To give them JUST lists...
From the QuickBooks 2002PRO help file:
>You can export part or all of your company lists to another
>QuickBooks company. (snipped)
>Important: This procedure does not export transactions.

He could start a new company file and only export/import only list
info into it.

On the QuickBooks WEB site:
http://www.quickbooks.com/support/faqs/qbw2000/117501.html

For your friends own records, he should keep a final "original data"
company file backup. (A "qbb" data file backup.)
Do a search for *.qbb files on the hard drive. He will be handing
them the old info, (unless the company is password protected.)
Also search for any files with the company name as part of their
name. (These are mostly small and have limited info in them including
online banking "temp" stuff...)

Cleaning up the hard drive after deleting the "original company file"
(and any other files) would be another matter, as Windows will leave
it/them on the HD to be recovered with a certain amount of ease...

I've never done "most" of this. Rick Glazier
