One of the best popup managers I've found is "Popup Manager",

and for scanning a computer for adware, spyware, I like SpyBot:

but LavaSoft has also released Ad-Aware 6.0 recently, and then there's Pest
Patrol.

BTW:  First time I ever saw porno popups was when I was visiting a friend (a
minister) who had
"discovered" these disturbing popups.  Only problem was, the only way for a
porno popup to appear
is to either have wittingly or unwittingly visited the offending site.  I'm
sure with your Deacon
it was one unwitting.
