I had the same problem and in the end had to threaten my server I wanted iut 
and to give me my mac code. They very quickly offered me a free livebox and 
free phone calls and a new account if I stayed with them. I haven't had any 
spam or returned emails since. It certainly pays to rattle the bars of your 
cage from time to time.

This happened to me 2 years ago. Thousands of undeliverable e-mails and 
returned ones during one weekend. And they didn't stop... The only solution 
I found was changing my e-mail address and suddenly it all stopped for good. 
Obviously, I had to announce to my main correspondents that the address had 
been changed and had also to submit it to the groups I belonged.

Has anyone got any other suggestion, other than a hard disk format, to 
resolve the problem of my e-mail account being used to send out SPAM please. 
For about a month now I have been receiving numerous "undeliverable mail" 
e-mails, for e-mails that I have not sent.

If I have to format, then so be it - but if there is any other way - I would 
be pleased to know!
