Greetings! Trying to solve a dilemma for a client. He's recently
installed Windows98, as an upgrade from 3.11, on an AMD 5X86, 48 MB RAM,
Quantum Fireball HD. Once the machine boots into Win98, both his 3 1/2
inch floppy (A:) and 5 1/4 inch (B:) are not accessible in Windows
Explorer. However, if one chooses "Start>Reboot in MS DOS" mode, the
drives are accessible in DOS. And upon re-entering Win98 by issuing the
"WIN" command, the drives are now accessible in Win98. The respective
floppy icons both appear as 3 1/2 inch drives when they are not
accessible, but display the correct icons, respectively, once the DOS
trick has been run.
Floppy controller is on a card, not on the mobo. I've checked Control
Panel>System and can find no errors. I've deleted the floppy controller
and forced Win98 to reinstall, the problem remains. Problem did not
exist in 3.11.
TIA
Dave Gibson
