How is this database delimited; standard is either tabs or commas. What
was the source?

I'd try access, just to see if the data's corrupted. Just import the
beast, and it should tell you what kind of delimiters are used. BTW, do
you know if the field names are included? If so, you'll see names in the
top fields. That's easy to fix, provided you know what they are. I
really hate it when folks don't follow database conventions.
