I had this problem. I believe it is an XP problem with the newer faster
machines. Reboot into windows using the XP boot discs. Then make sure you
have all your windows updates installed. This one was covered early on -
unfortunately *after* I had to reformat. I don't remember the exact number
of the update but it was released around September last year. Unmountable
boot volume is the Micro$oft term meaning your computer is shutting down too
fast - before your hard drive stops spinning. This has the potential to do
serious harm depending on where your hard drive is sitting when the power is
removed. I was told that I might have to replace the drive but was lucky.
