This advice is often given, but beware that disabling System Restore will
delete all restore points for good. Thus you will not be able to restore
backwards should you ever wish to do so.

Sometimes the cure is worse than the complaint!

Xp's System Restore is far from ideal, though the theory is great and it
works well. It's unfortunate that it's not more user-configurable, but I
suppose that because of security issues. The tighter the security, the more
inflexible the system, it appears.

I'd like to know whether anyone has tried copying the restore folders to a
CD, then disabling System Restore, then, after re-enabling it, replacing
the restore folders. Would System Restore then be able to restore to those
points? It would be nice to have a known good restore point to which you
could always return. This does not seem possible from within the system, as
early restore points automatically get deleted by newer ones.

Has anyone managed to tame System Restore in a simple manner, short of
ghosting the hard drive?
