Hello Emy,

Personally I would recommend you try some of the numerous free programs
before you purchase something that may not be completely compatible with
your present programs and system. Generally, purchased software can only be
returned for exchange if defective and not for the purpose of a refund once
it's been opened.

When you talk internet security you're talking primarily firewall and
anti-virus software. Things like privacy and SPAM control are handled very
well by Windows if you are using the latest version (WinXP w/SP2) and it's
up to date. You only need to adjust the settings to the level of protection
you want.

For the firewall I suggest you try ZoneAlarm. There are other free firewalls
but ZoneAlarm is by far the most popular and, in my opinion, most effective.
I have used both the free and the Pro version for years and it has served me
well. For the anti-virus program I recommend Grisoft's AVG. If you are
familiar with AVG6, the recently released new version 7 is a completely new
program with many new features and is much better than version 6. avast! is
also a very good free program and many people use and are satisfied with it.

I'm also including links to several programs to protect against spyware and
malware. SpywareBlaster works in the background (you don't run scans) to
protect and SpywareGuard sits in the System Tray protecting. Two other
programs, SpyBot Search & Destroy and Ad-Aware, compliment each other and
scans your system (initiated manually by you) for the bad guys that may
already be there or somehow slipped through your defense (the bad guys work
24/7 to get you).

As an added note, in addition to all these programs being free, they all
include free updates for as long as you use them. They provide essentially
the same protection as the "paid for" programs, they just may not have all
the "bells and whistles". Whatever you decide on, good luck... and stay bug
free!!
