Possibly you might have some internet security software running in the 
background (Nortons, McAfee, Zone Alarm?) which removes the history data 
when you close the browser. Retaining the list of visited sites is 
considered by some security programs to be a security risk.  Hackers can 
sell lists of your visited sites to enable spammers to target you.
