Eric,
Mine does the same thing. Add/Remove shows it is v7.1. Chalk it up to
Microsoft not following convention.

I have tried to upgrade Windows Media to release 7.1 several times. However
the 'About Windows Media Player' resulting from the Help menu always reports
that I am running 7.01.00.3055. Clicking on the 'Check for Player Upgrades'
reports that I have the most recent version. I am curious about the version
number mis-report, if that is what it is.
I am running Windows 2000.
