When the window opens use the cursor on the side and bottom to stretch 
it to full screen. Then press the shift key while closing the window. 
After that the window should open in full screen. If you use desktop 
shortcuts to open a program, you can right click on the shortcut, select 
properties, and set the program to open "maximized".
