Causeway DOS extender is part of F-PROT.  So message relates some memory
problems,
most propably software conflict. I think there is CONFIG.SYS it is hidden or
soemthing
in AUTOEXE.BAT. As F-PROT has own extender try to run it safe mode command
prompt only
or selected mode.

Unfortunately, there's no reference to anything along the lines you suggest in
the startup files;  in fact only autoexec.bat is active to allow Norton
AntiVirus to run on startup.
