I don't know about folder icons, but drive icons can be easily changed
by simply adding a file called "autorun.inf" to the root directory of
the drive whose icon you wish to change. Autorun.inf is a text file that
is frequently found on commercial CDs, and it causes the CD to
'autoplay' when it's inserted, (I know, but keep reading), along with
optionally assigning an icon to be displayed for that drive and a few
other less frequently used functions.

Here's the autorun.inf file from my copy of MS Office97 SBE, for
example:

  [autorun]
  OPEN=AUTORUN.EXE
  ICON=AUTORUN.EXE,0

In your case, you probably don't want any program to autorun when you
first access a drive, so omit that line. Find an icon that you like, and
then reference it as follows:

  [autorun]
  ICON=MY_ICON.ICO

or...

  [autorun]
  ICON=MY_PROGRAM.EXE,0

In the first case, since no path to "MY_ICON.ICO" is specified, it's
assumed to be in the root directory of that drive. If not, just add the
appropriate path information. In the second example above, you're simply
accessing the first icon, (numbering starts with zero), which is located
inside the program called 'MY_PROGRAM.EXE'. Again, add the necessary
path info if the program isn't located right there in the root
directory.

Just yell if you have any questions or problems.
