My system crashed and I reinstalled the files from my restore disk. IE 5.5 and OE 5 were the original for my computer so of course I wanted to update to OE6 and IE6. I went to the Win update site and downloaded what I needed but when I went to install them, it only got to 705 and then hung. Repeated tries ended up with an "unknown error" and unsuccessful installation. I removed the OEM from the Win INF files as they told me to do, and I got up to 90 and then it quit. I am running Windows ME with 20Gb and 64MB of ram with 700 mgz hard drive. Anyone have this problem? Do I need to totally wipe out the hard drive, instead of doing a partial format? Maybe I left some stray files behind when I reinstalled from the restore disk. Any ideas?
