Quicktime is usually a disaster on older computers. Definitely not
recommended. QT3 was OK, but later versions will usually crash on older
systems.

You don't actually say whether or not it is working---if it is, perhaps you
are best to leave well alone.

For details on various methods of resetting your File Associations, see my
Web tutorial.

You may find you'll have to got to Quickview's Options or Settings to stop
it resetting these associations---or you may even have to disable it
altogether. You certainly should not permit it to run at startup. That may
be why it is hijacking your system. Every time it starts, it will reset all
those picture file associations back to itself until you reset its options
(if indeed that is possible).

I suggest that for general image file viewing, use freeware Irfanview---it
is generally held to be the best viewer-editor and highly recommended. It
is quick, stable, and quite versatile. In fact, it does some of the basic
image editing functions a darned sight better (and certainly easier) than
some very expensive graphic programs.

You'll find it's miles quicker than Adobe as a primary viewer.
