I subscribe to McAfee virus scan on line, which automatically updates my
virus protection usually at least once a day. Anyway, about a month ago I had a
problem with the update -- got an error message that the update wasn't
successful and I needed to restart the computer and try downloading again. Well,
needless to say, it didn't work. Several attempts with the McAfee online technical
support were fruitless and actually did further damage -- I was able to
uninstall the virus protection but not the McAfee Security System which caused me to
be running without protection at all (because the download didn't work). I
tried disk clean up, defragmenting, clean installs, etc., etc. etc. I was finally
able to do a system restore in the Windows XP software that brought me back
to an earlier date and reloaded the virus protection, but the updates failed
again. I was convinced either McAfee had a problem with Windows XP or it was my
computer (although I had not installed any new software nor had I uninstalled
anything), until it happened to a second computer I have that is Windows 98.
Does anybody have any insights? Thanks in advance. Mary Deckert
