If you are trying to open the Access DB from the cd-r, then it is always
going to be read-only. All removable cd media is going to be seen as
read-only to Access.

If you copied the DB to a hard disk, all files copied from a cd-r media have
the read-only attribute set when they are copied to the hard drive. Find the
.mdb file in windows Explorer or My Computer, and right-click on the file,
select properties, and remove the check from the read-only box at the
bottom. That will do it.

If you find that you have already removed the check from the read-only box,
then the cause is that you are using a different version, (most probably a
newer version) of Access than the version that created the DB. Use Access
conversion wizard to update the DB to the latest .mdb format. Then you will
be able to use the DB for writing and saving to it. Access should prompt
you that this is the problem when you open the DB, but I use Access 2000 and
Access 2002 (XP) and I have seen Access sometimes fail to warn me that the
.mdb was created by an earlier version.

Hi, Folks. I have an Access DB that I copied in Roxio to a CD-R disk.
When I try to open the DB, I get the message that it is 'read only' and I
can't make changes or update object definitions in the dB.

I right clicked on the DB name and went into properties to uncheck the
read only attribute, but no luck.

Does anyone have a resolution to this problem before I shoot either
the computer or myself?
