Need?
I like to think of firewalls (and antivirus software packages) as
insurance policies. You don't _need_ one until something goes wrong.
My opinion is thus:
There are people out there who actively scan for open computers. (Do
they know what to do with one they find open? That's another topic.)
If they find one, they may try to use it. Why be open that way?
Downloading a couple of trials and playing with them won't hurt.
