This is a ongoing myth, created by disk manufacturers to sell their disks at
higher prices. Digital information is stored in 1s and 0s (dots and spaces)
on the CD-R the disk can't tell if it's music or data. Some disks PLAY
better in non computer players than others. This is a result of dye and
reflective layers. For more information than you ever thought you needed

Subject: [PCSOFT] CD-R data or music?
It is time to resupply my cd-r stockpile and in checking prices I notice
that two types are available - data and music. It turns out I have been
blissfully (and successfully ) burning music to data discs all this time and
now wonder why pay a 40% premium for so-called music cd-r discs. Is there
any good reason to do so?
