This is not correct.

Converting files from WK1 to WKS would be a step backwards in evolution.

Lotus 123 release 1 and 1A both created WKS files.
Lotus 123 release 2 created WK1 files
Release 3 created WK3 files (they skipped WK2)
Release 4 (and 5?) created WK4 files

And the newest version 123 -97 apparently creates 123 files, which is
probably why XL can not read them, it is a format that came out after the XL
being used by the client.
