Dear Dennis,
I had a similar problem and received excellent advice from the Outlook
forum.

1. Have you changed your Time Zone recently - either in Control Panel or by
using the Clock? Surprisingly, that causes Outlook to double all
appointments.

2. If you want to delete everything and start all over again, then back up
all important appointments -
probably by hand :-(
- and click View - Current View - By Category.
Take a deep breath.
Exhale slowly.
Delete the items
