I have a user who is having trouble saving an Excel2000 spreadsheet to a NetWare network drive. After several successful saves, he suddenly is unable to save the file. The save command comes back with an error message saying that the save was not completed because the rename failed. At that point a temporary file is created and Excel instructs you to rename this file and work from it. The original file (on the network drive) then becomes unchangeable. You cannot delete it or rename it. A delete in Windows 98 results in a "cannot find the specified file" error, even though it appears to be there. The file also cannot be deleted with any NetWare utilities such as NetWare Administrator or Filer.

I have searched the Microsoft site and have found what appear to be similar incidents, but solutions deal with network access rights to the directory in which the file resides, which have been set correctly.

There was also mention of a conflict between Excel file saves and anti-virus programs, but I'm not convinced that this is applicable in this instance.

Any insight from anyone out there?
