Thanks to those who provided me with information on this list and offlist.
Someone sent me an email offlist and suggested I delete the normal.dot file
on my computer and let WORD recreate it when I rebooted the computer. It
worked - the problem was cleared up immediately. The Word program opened and
functioned perfectly.
I'm delighted it's working. Just don't ask me why - I suspect the normal.dot
file is really important and must have gotten corrupted somehow.
I learn a lot because of PCSOFT!
