I was having the same kind of problem. I opened up processes in Ctrl+At+Del
and there were about 250 processes running. I noticed that there were many
many copies of 'anotify.exe' and each were 200 MB. I started deleting them
and noticed that an AOL file was increasing each time I deleted the smaller
file. I googled 'anotify.exe' and found out it's an AOL file. I deleted
AOL IM entirely and now my computer runs just fine. I also renamed the AOL
file that insisted on starting itself and downloading more of itself.
Forgot to add that I deleted unused programs. I was at the point I was
ready to reformat, but decided to look for horses before I looked for zebras
and it worked. I suppose I am learning something from reading posts from
this list. Thanks, everybody.
