  This is not standard "out of the box" behaviour for Word.  If you're
not aware of any local customization of Word on your machine, I urge
you to run an up-to-date virus scan.  I haven't actually heard of a
virus that uses the VBA (Visual BASIC for Applications) component of
Word, but this sounds like someone has tried to use that (with buggy
code), and who knows what it's supposed to do.

  [There may be some third-party add-ons for Word that use VBA; if you
have such a package installed, you should report this problem to the
creators of that software.]
