If you download SpywareBlaster (free) and subscribe to autoupdate ($9.95/yr), you will not get any more spyware or adware on your pc to have to remove. At least, I haven't - in five years. Spybot and Adaware no longer find anything. You can do a lot within the program interface - read through the tabs and buttons. It's one of my most treasured pieces of software. The daily autoupdate pulls in all the new info for new adware tracking cookies and spyware and at less than $10 per year for what it does, its CHEAP, CHEAP, CHEAP! But if you want to be even cheaper, but in my opinion WHY?? you can update with this stuff youself manually for free. Be sure you have all the settings right, to automatically activate everything when it downloads..
SpywareBlaster works by setting kill bits in the registry for known spyware and tracking cookies, so it is not the sort of program that has to 'run' all of the time. If there are specific cookies that you want to unblock, you can do so from within SB's interface.

Subject: [PCSOFT] Ad-Aware personal (free) can't update
Have not been able to update since late 2007, any ideas? I also have
Spybot S&D, what else would you suggest if Ad-Aware is a thing of the past?
