I wouldn't recommend Winzip if all you want is to unzip files.  It's slow,
messy, and cumbersome, and particularly frustrating to use, especially for
beginners.

Try Alladin Stuffit Expander. It's free, and completely automatic.  All it
does is unzip files, and it does this perfectly seamlessly. Set it as your
default .zip association, and you'll wonder why you ever used anything

Like everyone else, I used Winzip (with a guilty conscience) for yonks,
until I became enlightened.

For zipping, I recommend Zip Central. Free at http://zipcentral.iscool.net/
