Hi

The difference is not in performance but in the number of headers that
Outlook (or any other newsgroup reader) downloads for you to view. Headers
are basically just the subject, name of sender, date...etc... of the
messages posted to a newsgroup so instead of downloading thousands of
messages all you donwload are the headers and then as you pick the pnes you
want to read then the messages body is downloaded.
Imagine if you had to download 8000 emails everyday....that would take alot
of time and chances are you'd never read 90% of them. So that is the idea
behind downloading only 300 or so newgroup headers and then you choose out
of these 300 which ones you want to read.
Now that its all explained, you should now that setting the amount of
headers to download to 2000 will indeed slow you down a bit, but most 33.6
and greater modems can easily handle between 300 and 500 headers. There is
no problem with setting it at 50 tho, as once you have read those 50 (or at
least the ones you wanted to) then you can just download the next 50 and so
on and so on...

Cheers
Kevin Hains
