I have not done it under Win2k, but under NT I shared folders without
needing to add the user to my machine. The error message that Dan is seeing
appears to be due to restricting of IPC (the remote access to the computer
as a whole rather than a specific folder). Dan should enable global access
to his computer (the IPC$). I don't remember how to ensure this on Win2k,
but on NT you could do this in the user manager.

I may be off base on this, but this seems to be the direction to go.

You will need to create a user(s) on the Win2K PC, and give that user
appropriate privileges. You can do this in Control panel ....Computer
Management.
If you create a user using the same user name and password that you logged
on to the other PC with, then you won't be prompted for a password when you
try to access a share from that PC.
