James,
If you are accessing the same internet account from a LAN and over dial-up
you will not have many problems. My machine is 95 but a colleague uses NT
and as far as I see it's similar. You'll need to set up network properties
mapping the TCP/IP protocol to the LAN card and to the "Dial-Up Adapter".
Most of the items are set by the network administrators (company LAN and the
ISP). Some things like host name and DNS server seem to override each
other, i.e. Windows doesn't store separate values for each adapter.
However, I have had total success despite this! (Make sure to include both
DNS server addresses in the config.)

Considerations:
You will get a different IP address in each case. The ISP should not
identify you by IP address, but if they do, you have a problem (which the
ISP has to solve rather than you??).

If there's a firewall in the office, it may block some traffic that goes
through the dial-up line OK. If there's an internal mail server, the
firewall will probably block POP3 and you won't be able to see the internet
mail server.

The mail package affects the ability to use the same user name. I have to
use Outlook 98 (97 also fine) since some of my mail is through a company
Exchange server. Although it's big and clunky, it does allow me to have one
address book (synchronised with my Palm as well) and one set of mail
folders, and to access both my internet account and my exchange account
without logging out of mail. In fact, I just pull the LAN cable out,
connect the phone line and dial up, then retrieve mail. Outlook stays open,
as does the browser.

You don't mention Exchange but if that's a factor, write back. There are
several more considerations!

I need to setup a laptop that is running NT on it for a person that is going
to be accessing the Internet from the network and from a phone line when
they are away from the office, what is the best way to do that? right now I
have two separate users and when their away they log on as the user setup to
be away, but they dont have the same address book and mail folders and
things like that, this way, there must be a better way right?
