Does the laptop have SP2 installed? Have you run the XP netsetup.exe on
the existing machines?
Although it's probably tolerable with only 5 machines (although you also
list a server...), I recommend against NetBEUI. It eliminates the
performance and security benefits of using a network switch, and when things
are half working, you don't know whether it's because you've got TCP/IP half
right, or if TCP/IP is completely broken and it's just that some things are
managing to work across NetBEUI instead. Blocking NetBIOS to/from the
Internet is something (only one of many things!) your firewall should be
doing for you.
