When I right click on my printer, I don't get an option that says "Printer
Preferences". Must be a difference in Windows. I have Win98SE.

Some printers evidently do use some color when printing black (greyscale)
and white. To prevent this:
Right-click on your printer and select "Printing
Preferences..."
Click the "Advanced" Tab at the top of the window
Click to place a check in the box beside "Print in
Greyscale"
Also tick the radio button for "Black Only"
In the future, your printer should not use any color from your color
cartridges, unless you alter your settings. Also, if you do use color, try
to balance your color usage - if you print a lot of red backgrounds, you
will exhaust that color and have to replace the entire color cartridge. You
can also (in printing preferences) select to NOT print background colors if
you do choose to use color. -Ann Fennell
