I did indeed install the .NET framework and, no, I don't need it that I know
of.  Apparently, it sets up a new account (I don't know why because I
haven't investigated the program) and that changed the screen saver
situation and checked a "welcome screen" option.  By removing the .NET, it
seems to have gone back to the password protect option of before.  With no
check there, the problem seems to be over.
