For e mail I've been using Outlook Express under IE v.6 through Comcast
cable on Win 98 SE. For
last two days when I boot OE (sometimes at system boot) to get my mail, I
get error window: "Some
errors occurred while processing requested tasks." And the "Details" shown
in window are:

"The connection to the server has failed. Account: [log in to unmask],
Server: 'localhost', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket
Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E"

[snip]
I could be wrong, but I believe the "Server:" indicating 'localhost' may be
the
clue you are looking for. I have a comcast cable account and the incoming
mail server needs to be mail.comcast.net and the outgoing mail server needs
to be smtp.comcast.net.
To make the necessary changes, go to the Tools menu, then Accounts.
Click the "Mail" tab, if necessary, and highlight the e-mail account that
you use. Click "properties", then click on the "Servers" tab. POP3
should be indicated as the incoming mail type, and underneath that
box are the two boxes that need the information I have indicated above.
Try putting those values in the incoming and outgoing boxes, applying
the changes, then re-starting Outlook Express.
