Bryan,

In the early days of 95 upgrades, people learned quickly that the upgrade
was simply looking for any file called C:\WINDOWS\WIN.COM.  I believe that
MS realized that too many dishonest people were faking the file to load the
upgrade and I think that MS has now made the authentication process more
secure and complex.

Since the 98 upgrade will not accept a 95 upgrade as proof of ownership,
the easiest thing to do is just feed it your original Win3.x CD (or diskette
1.)
