Assuming that you have legal copies of the software, you can normally
install to run totally off of a hard disk. There is usually a .CFG or
.INI file or registry (for Windows 95/98/NT) entry or something similar
which holds information about where the application's files are
located. This should be the case for most software. Search the
application directory and the Windows directory for such a file. There
may be information in the user's manual about how to install to the hard
drive. Failing that, you could try contacting the manufacturer and
asking about if or how this may be done. If there are large amount of
data required (like for an encyclopedia), it may be impractical to
install a full CD to the hard drive.
