I would somehow install Firefox in place of IE. Since you can not get
onto the internet with the laptop, you will need to get Firefox on a
CD/DVD or a USB memory stick to install it on the laptop. Also, after
installing it, install a free Firefox extension/add-on for emulation of
IE, when needed, as there are still a few Web sites that require IE for
access/use (such as Windows Update). The terminology may not be perfect,
but Firefox is user friendly enough that you will easily work it out.
