Diane, with regard to the sign in box on boot up, folks on PCSOFT guided me to Tweak UI which I
already had installed.  Not only do one have to give Tweak UI a sign in to save, but note the note
that accompanies it which states something like "you must uncheck 'delete the last user' for the
automatic sign in to work" -- sorry I don't remember the wording.  It worked for me.
