Good evening all,

I am planning on formatting my hard drive & upgrading to Window NT 4.0
Workstation (currently running Windows 95). I was wondering if someone
could please give me a hand in structuring my repartitioning & file
system layouts. I currently have a 2.1 GB Conner SCSI (Narrow) hard
drive as well as a 1.8 GB Seagate (double-5 1/4 bay block) devoted
specifically to storing my MP3z. I was thinking of dividing my 2.1 GB
into the 3 typical partitions--system, data, and applications. I was
wondering if anyone can give me a rough estimate as to how much space i
should leave for the system partition (planning on copying over
system/cab files to system partition as well--only those for I386,
however). I was wondering approximately how large I should make my
applications partition...just for reference, most of my programs are
installed under my Program Files directory under Windows 95, which eats
up ~300 MB of hard drive space...however, I am planning on cutting back
on my installed applications within NT, but I would like to be generous
in my spacing. Finally, I would leave the rest for my data.

My next question involves file systems. Should I use all NTFS
partitions, all FAT16, or a combination of both. I believe it is more
difficult to recover data from an NTFS partition, if necessary, because
of the lack of tools, although I am not particularly worried about
losing much data. If I use a combination, what pattern should I choose,
and what would be the benefits? I'm not truly worried about security
considering this machine is only for personal use. But I'm assuming
there must be other trade-offs between the file systems besides
security? Speed perhaps?

Well, thanks in advance for any suggestions and/or comments you may
have.
