Ian,

I'm running Win ME, and in Windows I just select the files while holding the ctrl key, right click
and choose 'properties'. Then I check whichever attribute I want at the bottom and click 'apply'.
Windows then asks if I want to apply the changes to all the files. If I've chosen an entire folder
rather than just a few files, Windows asks if I want to apply the changes to just the folder, or all
files and sub-folders contained within. hth
