I once saw some software that was supposed to trap or log file opens by
applications.  Try looking for a program called OPENTR or OPENTRAP.  I
think it was on the PC World site's software library.  If you cannot find
it, let me know and I'll try to find out more details on it.  I think I
have a copy of it still on an archive tape somewhere.
