My experience, and two questions

1) If you reinstall over the top you will save your configurations
2) You may lose some of your upgrades or enhancements

The latter is not too important, as you can go back to the Microsoft
Update site, where you've been, and run check on your system to see what
upgrades are available you don't have.

Questions:

What is the registry edit that will make Windows call for files to be
installed from CD instead of diskettes? Is it possible to copy all the
diskettes to CD, to be able to install entire OS, if necessary, from CD,
instead of diskettes? In both instances the object is to be able to use
CD, instead of diskettes, for greater convenience.

If someone responds one can redirect search for file to be installed to
CD instead of diskettes, by using Browse option, that is only a modest
improvement in convenience. If, for example, you were installing a
program with files on seven diskettes, you would have to redirect each
call for a file from a diskette to the CD.
