Thanks Jim...my problem was that MS has moved the location of Normal.dot in
Office Winword 2000 from the usual MSOFFICE\Templates location. This
directory is still there but normal.dot has been moved to a different
template folder.

In Win9X it can now be found in :\windows\application data\Microsoft\templates

and in Win2000 it is in :\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application
Data\Microsoft\Templates>
