There are so many things that can be suspects.
To determine the C drive is still among the living, do this.
When you see a message like 'press DEL to enter setup' early in the boot
process, press the del key. Verify that there are disk drives recognized on
the primary ide channel. This is typically on the Basic Setup Page. If
there are no disk drives listed, use the setup menu selection for
auto-detect ide devices (drives).

Next, with boot diskette in drive A, save the changes to cmos, (if you
needed to make any), and let the system boot. If you can get to an A:>
prompt in dos, run fdisk.exe and select the menu option to display the disk
settings only. Your drive should be showing up here, if it doesn't, this is
probably going to be a drive hardware failure.

If your drive was not in cmos until you used the auto-detect, and now it
seems to be okay, you probably have a dead battery.

At bootup this morning, I got an error saying ...
[Invalid boot disk in drive A:, insert a valid boot disk]
but, there was NO disk in the floopy drive !!

After rebooting via a bootable floppy and requesting to scandisk C:
I got an error saying [can't scandisk a network drive] ?!

What's all that about? what should be done to access the machine??
win 98SE, celeron 733, M/B intel 815, HDD 20G Quantum, 128 SD RAM.
No new software or hardware, and sure No virus infection.
