I don't think you can say there is a "normal" association.  For a basic
windows system, the DEFAULT association for BMP files is MS PAINT (click
START --PROGRAMS--ACCESSORIES-- PAINT).  BUT, if you customized the
windows installation and added the QUICK VIEW application, then it will be
the default VIEWER while PAINT is still the default EDITOR.

If you have added any kind of graphics editing program (like with a
scanner), then whichever program was last installed on the PC will be the
new default editor and probably the viewer also(assuming it can deal with
BMP files).
