Hi Richard,
        You can put the old hard drive into the new computer but, unless the new
computer has the PNP feature (probably does), you have to set the jumpers
in each hard drive correctly.  The drive that came with the computer must
be jumpered to become the Master drive (C:) and the added drive must be
jumpered to become the Slave drive (D:). If you also have a  CD-ROM drive,
it will then become the E: drive.
        If your new computer has the PNP (Plug N Play) feature, the only thing you
need to do after installation is to go to Start, Settings, Add New Hardware
and let the Installation Wizard take over.  Let Windows search for the
added drive to identify and it.
        Once the drive is installed, I think the easiest method of transferring
the programs from D: to C: would be to go into the DOS prompt and use the
XCOPY command to copy an entire folder with all of its contents in one
swoop.
